Welcome Raine Delight!

Posted on: December 15, 2011

Welcome to Rawiya’s. I’m happy to have Raine Delight on the blog today with an interview. Please give her your undivided attention.

How long have you been writing?

RD: I have been writing on and off for over 6 years now with a variety of publishers who seemed to open then year later close.

What made you decide that you wanted to put yourself out there to publish?

RD: I got tired of reading about characters that, one way or another seemed to have lost their minds at times. It got quite frustrating so an author friend dared me to try my hand at writing what I wanted to read and the rest is history. J

Before you started, had you done any fanfiction? If so, what fandom?

RD: Nope never really tried.

Are you in agreement that writing fanfiction is a great way to practice ones craft, why or why not?

RD: Not sure since I never did this sort of thing so I will leave that up to those who do this.

Since you write, m/m, m/f, do you find it difficult to switch back and forth?

RD: Sometimes…depends on the story really. I try to work on M/M stories on one day and M/F stories on another but of course, I end up half the time working on both in one day. J

Is there one genre you haven’t tried that you see yourself doing in the future?

RD: I really am trying to branch out into science fiction/futuristic since it’s like a blank slate for me. J I am even thinking of an historical though the thought of research is making me sweat.

What is your opinion on the “chicks with dicks” analogy? In your opinion, is it wrong for your males to be emotional or romantic?

RD: I like my male heroes to be emotional but not so weepy that it turns even me off. I like the show of vulnerability beneath the strong male personality. I like a little romance as well. I mean a guy giving his SO flowers just to say I love you or something else along those lines in the story is great.

Your first published book?

RD: It was Sticky Magic, my first book in my Devon Falls series. It took a week to write and 3 weeks to be accepted. I don’t think I could ever do that again now. *laughs*

I’m of the opinion that erotica doesn’t have to be real all the time to make a good story, what are your thoughts?

RD: I agree…sometimes I like the feelings, emotional responses chracters have then the actual sex part. Erotica means, to me, romance, passion, that connection between two (or more) people in a story and that should be the core of a good story. Just my humble opinion is all.

What are you working on now?

RD: I  just finished final proofing of my newest book, coming Dec 26th, Moonlight and Magic so next I am going to go over a sensual fantasy romance for release in 2012 then I plan to finish tweaking my M/M/F Sci-Fi Menage, my first ménage with M/M, M/M/F scenes, to send out for consideration. Then a few other projects I am hoping to finish and submitted in 2012 as well.

My muse is never quiet. LOL

When creating your characters, do you have models in mind or are they totally fictional?

RD: Actually it’s all my imagination. I look at model pictures and maybe take the eyes or color of hair off them that I find interesting but overall, my imagination creates them.

If you write gay romance or erotica, just how descriptive are you’re in their sex scenes?

RD: I can get pretty descriptive. No closed doors in my books. *laughs*

Recently, a writer sabotaged her career by answering a bad review on a blog. How would you have handled this and do you think authors should answer their reviews?

RD: In my opinion, she should have been gracious that the blogger reviewed her book and said thank you for your time, NOT go off on a tangent on the blog and be rude. Not a good thing since things like that live into infamy on the internet.

Do you think it’s important as a writer of both to do your research on the genre you are least familiar with?

RD: In historical books, definitely. I think if the story is in paranormal then you got some leeway on it.

What do you enjoy most about writing in the genre you don’t do as often?

RD: I love creating a new story with new people to explore. Just opening a new word document sends my muse into an orgasm of happiness. J

I like exploring a new romance, be it in M/M or M/F, the way two (or more) people connect on different levels makes me giddy.

Do you write under a different pename because you switch?

RD: Nope, this is the only name I use for my writings. Anymore I would be going crazy.

What’s it like talking to family or friends about writing romance and or erotica?

RD: I don’t talk to my family about it since they disapprove of what I write but my honey is a sweetheart and always says he would love to help with some “hands on” research. *laughs*

Have you ever thought about doing a ménage story? If so tell us why and your idea?

RD: I actually have my first ménage-M/M/F- most of the way done. Tweaking the ending and then letting my crit partners look it over. It’s a ‘What if?” type of story. I got inspired by an article on what gamma rays from space would do to the Earth and just ran with it.

I took my love for Johnny Depp’s Captain Jack and Nathan Fillan’s Firefly’s Capt. Malcolm Reynolds and mixed them together and I got Space Pirates: Bounty. Here is the small book blurb on it…hoping to get that out to publishers after the holidays. *fingers crossed*

Can one woman find a way to save her friend while falling in love with the sexiest space pirates this side of the galaxy?

Kara Griffin is determined to save her friend, Reggie from the alien slavers but what she finds is a love with two of the hottest space pirates this side of the galaxy. Capt. Rafe Gregory and his first mate, Tyrese are shocked to find a woman stow away on their ship but soon find themselves falling for this feisty earthling. The chase is on…the question is who won’t win but who will fall fast and hard when these three come together in passion and desire.

For you, what works in promotions?

RD: It depends…I try to do 3-4 blogs a month and a chat or two on the yahoo loops, facebook, blog and just try to not spam everyone to death.

What promotional methods work best for you?

RD: again it depends…I do up promo flyers to send out on loops, give sneak peeks on my blogs, maybe do a contest or be part of a blog tour stop. It all depends on what will work for each book.

Do you think we should be held accountable for the pictures and or covers we post on social media ie Facebook when we promo? Why or why not?

RD: That is a sticky question to answer. On  one hand I want to say no, it’s apublic place but on the other hand, I say proceed with caution. As you know, there are some people who would LOVE to get people banned over something as trivial as a curve of a breast or the dip in an ass on a picture or cover. As a writer, I am extremely cautious on facebook in particular, was already reported once and was locked out of my account for 10 days. LONGEST TEN DAYS OF MY LIFE!!!! *grins*

Do you have any advice you could give to new writers?

RD: Write what you want, not what is popular at the moment (sparkly vampires anyone?). Keep writing, enjoy yourself and let yourself learn from established authors.

Fun Questions

Boxers or Briefs?

RD: On my man…depends…love the bareness of skin but he can equally sexy in either boxers or briefs. *grins*

What celebrity man or woman do you wish you could have but can’t?

RD: Well my muse is the combination of Johnny Depp, Hugh Jackman and Gerard Butler. That should say it all. LOL

A perfect date with

RD: is anywhere with my honey-dinner out or him cooking for me at home-sans kids-with candles lit, music on low and us relaxing together. J

Give me a sweet romantic scene off the top of your head in 5 sentences or less.

RD: Ok um…let me think and turn my mind to something non-erotic.

Let me see if this works…do you know how hard it was trying to come up with something sweet? *laughs*

Hope this is ok.

Melinda couldn’t see where the voice was coming from. It sounded close yet also as if it was coming from a long tunnel as well. Shaking her head, she tried to peer through the gloom of the late day and find the mystery man who was talking to her. He did sound genuinely distressed, she thought. The heartbreak in his voice was so similar to how she’d felt when Graham had dumped her last year, just three weeks away from the altar.

The character in one of your books that you identify with?

RD: Oh man I believe Jenna was similar to  me when I first wrote Sticky Magic. She was shy, had bad luck with men and preferred to work over meeting new people.

Chocolate or Vanilla?

Raine: Ice cream I hope you are asking. J I prefer both actually.

Bubble bath or shower?

RD: Hmmm depends on my mood and if I want to seduce my honey as well. LOL

Lights on or off?

RD: hmm I am hoping you mean for sleeping. No? Then it all depends on the mood. *grins wickedly*

Favorite way to relax. Don’t say write!

RD: *glares at you* I wasn’t going to say that at all. I was going to say drool over Hugh Jackman, or go through my naked mancandy pictures for the weekly Monday Mancandy segment on my blog. *pffft* I also like to read, watch movies/TV Shows on DVD and walk with honey and kids at local state parks when weather is nice.

What is one sentence to sum up Raine Delight?

RD: Um…beware of sarcastic attitude. Proceed with Caution. *yes I know its two sentences. Sorry*

Raine Delight loves to be pampered by her harem of men that exist solely for her pleasure. Wait…..that was in a movie she saw. Hey, she can dream. J Raine loves to fight with her muse, attack her manuscripts and find a way to silence the many voices in her head. Inspiration hits at odd times and for Raine, a blank word document page gives her many possibilities on story ideas.  Living with her two kids, a significant other who supports her every move in writing and doesn’t seem to mind she gets up at 2 am to type away on the computer. With a love for Johnny Depp, movies and 80’s hair bands, Raine finds a way to bring all her chaotic thoughts into a story that tells her readers about love and romance.

Tiger Shifter/Paranormal (M/F) Romance

Can a tiger shifter convince one stubborn woman that she is his for all time and show her that falling in love is just as sinful as a chocolate kiss?

Michael Barnes is a rare white were-tiger and is tired of roaming around the world alone. Meeting his destined mate was unexpected as well. Dixie Sinclair is fun, sexy, and everything he feels he doesn’t deserve. The past has a way of coloring a person’s life and it’s up to Michael to showDixiethat he is the one to hold her heart.

PG13 Excerpt:

Scene set up-Dixie is miffed her friends got Michael to walk her home and is confused by her reaction to him. Here is where he kisses her for the first time…

As her street loomed ahead of them, she stopped at the beginning of it and stuck her hand out. “Thanks for the escort, but since I’m almost home and nothing jumped out in front of me, I think I can handle getting to my house just fine.”

“Nope. I am to escort you to the house, not the street,Dixie,” the maddening man said as he looked at her with a smile on those luscious lips. Gritting her teeth, she tried to keep her frustration out of her face, but damn it all, she was old enough to walk home. It wasn’t like there was a crime wave inDevonFalls. Far from it.

Miffed, she stomped forward and tried not to hit the lug behind her. Of all the men in the world, I had to have one with a streak of chivalry in him she thought as her house finally came in view.

Breathing a sigh of relief, she turned and ran smack dab into the broad, hard chest…the chest her hands wanted to caress and explore among other parts of his body. A slight “oomph” came out of mouth as she looked up and felt herself drown under his gaze. It was like watching a movie in slow motion. She saw his face lean down and her one thought before those luscious lips settled on hers was Man, am I in trouble now.

Michael leaned forward. When he finally touched those kissable lips, he felt the spark that hit him the first time he touched her turn into an inferno. Pulling her close, he felt her body mold itself around him, fitting against his, and it was pure perfection. He couldn’t get enough of her. Kissing her was like diving into fire. She was a drug he craved, and he was determined to have it.

Feeling her kiss him back had him aching in more ways than one. Sliding his tongue along her lips had her gasping. Taking advantage of that, he slipped it in and began to duel with hers. The deep kisses made him want more, but before he took her against the trees, he gathered his last shred of control. With a last, deep kiss, he took a calming breath and leaned his head against hers, his breath choppy and his jeans a tad bit too tight at the moment.

TY for being here Raine!

Really enjoyed the interview. Loved the five sentence challenge so much I had to try it.
The monarch butterfly’s wings beat frantically against the wires of the tomato cage. Troy reached inside and captured the insect’s legs between his thumb and forefinger, not so much as a particle of wing dust coated his hand as he released the butterfly into the air.
“It’s so sad that such a beautiful thing will die in a few days,” Gina lamented.
He placed his palm on her cheek, heat painted her neck.
“No,” he whispered, “it will always live in this moment, just as we will.”
